Dear All,

You are receiving this e-mail because your contact information appeared on the 2006 Darwin Week Celebration e-mail sheet.

Attached please find an extensive but incomplete list of suggested further reading and internet sources.  If you cannot find an internet site or reference mentioned in one of the talks please do not hesitate to contact us (see below for information).

We thank all of you for making the 2006 CWU Darwin Week Celebration a smashing success - 'official' rumors has it that we had record attendances throughout the week!

You will receive one more e-mail announcing the formation of a bible study group on the subject of creation-evolution during the Spring Quarter.  Many of you have expressed interest in an informal study on the subject of creation-evolution.  I am (Alex) currently in the process of putting together such a study.  I am an agnostic but my promise to you is that I will treat the subject with the utmost respect and that the study starts from the premise that Genesis IS inspired (in other words whether the Bible is supernaturally inspired or not will be assumed and will not be part of the discussion for the sake of keeping things focused).  The focus of this study is about the ways that one might view Genesis as inspired, not whether it is or not.  This study will serve as an introduction to the creationist (meaning Young Earth Creationism) interpretation of Genesis (and beyond) and alternative interpretations such as those held by people who accept evolution and also fully embrace the Christian faith (and a few views inbetween).  The claims and concerns of all views will be taken seriously.  This discussion is not meant to convince you of any one view but serves as an opportunity to understand the concerns and beliefs of others.  As an agnostic I also invite members from outside the faith community to this study.  If you want to really understand what is at stake for believers in the creation-evolution debate - this is a good place to start.  I seek to create a respectful and relaxed atmosphere.  This study DOES NOT seek to convert you to Christianity, destroy your faith, or convince you of evolutionary theory.  It is meant to provide a open forum for dialog, learning, and discussion.  This study is NOT sponsored by or affiliated with Central Washington University or the 2006 Darwin Week Celebration.

This study will be open to CWU students and faculty only.  I do not mean to exclude the non-university community, I simply had to draw a line somewhere for now.  I am planning on leading the same study, open to the public, in the fall of 2006.  If you are interested in providing a "home" for this community event in the fall please contact me right away.

Please feel free to pass this e-mail on to any interested parties.  There were several e-mails on the list that appeared as "errors" when assessed by the server.

Hope you all had a great Spring Break!

:) Alex
